Due to its similarity to human breast milk, during the 60s the interest in mare’s milk was spurred in Central and Western Europe, and a series of scientific studies on how to introduce mare’s milk to infant nutrition were undertaken (e.g., Wiesner (1963), Freudenberger (1945) and Neuhaus (1960)). However, since mare’s milk production for industrial use turned out to be expensive and time-consuming, these approaches were not further pursued.
